The SIX SHOOTER FILM SERIES from Magnet consists of six films from six different countries ranging from horror, sci-fi, alternative comedy and Asian cinema and aims to bring fans the most intelligent, genre-bending titles from around the world. Check out the trailers here. The Kentucky Theatre is currently showing Let the Right One In but I have to say Big Man Japan looks like the most intriguing one to me.

Died Young, Stayed Pretty

On March 14th, Died Young, Stayed Pretty will be making its U.S. premiere in Austin, Texas at the SXSW Music & Film Festival!

Picking up where punk left off, Died Young Stayed Pretty reveals a new breed of counter-culturists; artists that set out to destroy the mainstream through their controversial and intensely visceral design work. Under the guise of advertising for rock shows, these unheralded masters of the silkscreen and Xerox machine carry on public discourses that range from hot button political issues to lewd inside jokes. Director Eileen Yaghoobian sneaks her camera into the lives of these self-proclaimed professional radicals to discover where the real punk power lies, if any remains. Presented in the Emerging Visions Category, this feature film is the first of its kind to take a candid look at the renaissance of North America’s underground indie-rock poster movement.

Retro Skate Stickers

The G.I. JOE: Rise of Cobra TV spot that aired during the Super Bowl last night brought back some fond memories of my childhood. G.I. JOE was hands down my favorite toy as a kid. My other love was skateboarding and of course Powell Peralta. You can imagine my excitement when I ran across RetroSkateStickers.com today while I was already on an all-things-retro high. RetroSkateStickers.com currently has over 375 vintage skate stickers in their gallery with many of them for sale. Above are some of my favorites. I remember buying every deck back in the day because of the graphics which meant I always bought VCJ illustrated Powell Peralta. Man, I miss those days. It kind of makes me want to dig out the old McGill board from the attic… maybe I’ll grab the G.I. JOEs while I’m up there.

Check out Multimedia Specialist Todd Smith. Very cool work. Todd is the designer that learned how to program, the photographer who learned about typography, and the animator who learned about film making. So any of you that have been plugging away in one field and would like to try something new Todd proves it can be done. Great job.

Pet Milk kicked off Saturday night in Lexington at ArtsPlace. It was shoulder to shoulder with people reading their books filled with poems and short stories as they viewed all the great artwork that was inspired by it. The night included music, cookies and what else Milk, fantastic art, and a very creative group of people. Pet Milk proves we need this more in Lexington. The interest and talent is here. Above is just a small peek at the crowd, the cool book and CD they handed out at the door plus check out the killer rabbit admission stamps. Just wish I would of picked up the very cool poster printer by Cricket Press. Congrats Kelli on a great event, we are looking forward to the next one. Read more about Pet Milk here.

Another fantastic short film from Hillman Curtis. Circles was shot in designer James Victore’s Brooklyn studio and features Michael Goduti (Sopranos, Law and Order), Sid Hillman (Men in Black, Arlington Road, Ghost World), and Laura Victore.

Also check the recently completed short film on the American artist Jim Dine, for the Getty Villa and a series of silent Obama ads for ObamaMinute that played on a four story jumbotron in Times Square.
